Fasyali Fadzly is a director, playwright, researcher and educator. He had written and directed his own plays such as Teater Juta-Juta, Berani Mati, Kotak Hitam, Mati Hidup Kembali, Ingatan and directed several plays from other playwrights. His theatrical works has been staged in Malaysia and abroad such as Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Canada and Czech Republic. He also writes theatre-related articles and reviews and was published in local and international web portal such as Critics Republic (Malaysia), Arts Equator (Singapore), Dewan Budaya (Malaysia) and Jurnal Svara (Malaysia). In 2020, he had self-published his first collection of plays titled Teater Juta-Juta: Koleksi Skrip Teater Fasyali Fadzly. Currently, he works for Malaysian theatre archive project, My Art Memory Project as a researcher with Kathy Rowland. Fasyali is now serving as lecturer at The National of Arts, Culture and Heritage of Malaysia (ASWARA).
Fasyali Fadzly เป็นทั้งผู้กำกับ ผู้เขียนบท นักวิจัย และนักการศึกษา เขาสร้างสรรค์บทละครและกำกับบทละครของตัวเองจำนวนมาก เช่น Teater Juta-Juta, Berani Mati, Kotak Hitam, Mati Hidup Kembali, Ingatan และกำกับบทละครจากนักเขียนคนอื่นอีกจำนวนหนึ่ง ผลงานละครเวทีของเขาได้จัดแสดงทั้งในประเทศมาเลเซียและในต่างประเทศ เช่น ญี่ปุ่น อินโดนีเซีย สิงคโปร์ แคนาดา และสาธารณรัฐเช็ก
นอกจากนี้ Fasyali ยังเขียนบทความและบทวิจารณ์เกี่ยวกับศิลปะการละคร ผลงานเหล่านี้ได้รับการเผยแพร่ผ่านพอร์ทัลเว็บ (portal web) ทั้งระดับชาติและนานาชาติ เช่น ในเว็บ Critics Republic (มาเลเซีย), Arts Equator (สิงคโปร์), Dewan Budaya (มาเลเซีย), และ Jurnal Svara (มาเลเซีย)
ในปี 2020 เขาตีพิมพ์ผลงานรวมชุดบทละครของตัวเองที่มีชื่อว่า Teater Juta-Juta: Koleksi Skrip Teater Fasyali Fadzly ปัจจุบัน Fasyali ทำงานในโครงการรวบรวมผลงานศิลปะการละครในประเทศมาเลเซีย (Malaysian theatre archive project) พร้อมทั้งทำงานในฐานะผู้วิจัยในโครงการ My Art Memory ร่วมกับ Kathy Rowland และเขายังได้รับเกียรติเป็นอาจารย์ที่สถาบัน The National of Arts, Culture and Heritage of Malaysia (ASWARA) เช่นกัน
"This work is very personal to me. I wrote it a year after the passing of my father and a dedication to him. But the whole story is not about him. The play is commentary on our new way of remembering things, and too dependent on technology even in human interaction in this new era. Social media, electronic gadgets and the internet are vital in this era. We don't really remember much because everything is now stored in the 'cloud' or electronic devices, not in our memory like it used to be. Once in a while, the algorithm will remind us that certain things happened in the three, eight or ten years ago. We used to store our memories using oral stories, through objects but not at this day and age. The technique used in this performance also incorporates traditional puppet technique with new media and technology which I called it iPuppad (iPad + Puppet)."
“งานชิ้นนี้เป็นส่วนตัวกับผมมาก ผมเขียนขึ้นหลังจากที่พ่อผมเสียชีวิต 1 ปี ผมอุทิศงานชิ้นนี้ให้กับเขา แต่เรื่องราวทั้งหมดไม่ได้เกี่ยวกับพ่อเลย ละครเรื่องนี้วิพากษ์ถึงแนวทางในการจดจำสิ่งต่างๆ ที่พึ่งพาเทคโนโลยีสมัยใหม่ กระทั่งปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างมนุษย์ก็ด้วย ในยุคสมัยที่สื่อสังคมออนไลน์ อุปกรณ์อิเล็กทรอนิกส์ และอินเตอร์เน็ตเป็นสิ่งจำเป็นขาดไม่ได้ เราจำอะไรไม่ค่อยได้ เพราะเราเก็บทุกอย่างไว้ในอากาศ(cloud) หรือในอุปกรณ์อิเล็กทรอนิกส์ ไม่ได้เก็บไว้ในหัวเราเองเหมือนแต่ก่อน นานๆ ครั้ง ระบบอัลกอริธึมก็จะย้ำเตือนเรา ว่าเกิดอะไรขึ้นเมื่อ 3 ปี 8 ปีหรือ 10 ปีที่แล้ว เราเคยเก็บความทรงจำผ่านการเล่าขาน ผ่านสิ่งของ แต่ทุกวันนี้ไม่แล้ว ละครเรื่องนี้ใช้เทคนิคการนำเสนอที่ผสมหุ่นแบบดั้งเดิมกับสื่อสมัยใหม่ ผมเรียกมันว่า iPuppad (ไอแพด + หุ่น)”
